Enhance a Healthy and balanced Diet program for Your Children at House and at School



Children are likely to eat the same as their oldsters. As a parent, you can be a positive role design for consuming healthily. By purchasing and preparing healthy balanced foods, you can establish weight loss programs in your house.

A healthy atmosphere in your house is a nice beginning, but the children take most of their foods in class. By sending young children university with healthy meals and encouraging healthy selections for university events, you can also help to create a wholesome nutritional atmosphere in educational institutions.

The offering healthy foods in class improves student learning. Research shows that youngsters who have weight loss programs are:

• more willing to learn;
• more likely to achieve better results at school;
• less likely to have chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

The government is working with educational institutions, educators and mother and father to inspire consuming healthily in class. In April 2008, the Act on Healthy and balanced Food for Healthy and balanced Schools was passed to create educational institutions much healthier learning environments. By working together and making all our part, we can help our children to create much healthier options.

Create a much healthier university environment

The idea supporting the Act on Healthy and balanced Food for Healthy and balanced Schools is to help children create much healthier diet. This means that healthy and tasty foods should be made available to children in educational institutions.

In September 2011, the Ontario educational institutions will implement the plan on foods and drinks in educational institutions. It provides guidance on the types of foods that can be sold in university cafeterias, vending machines and in class events. Policy helps educational institutions determine which foods they can or can not sell.

Your children need YOU

Wherever possible, try to participate in the college life of your kid, making sure that the foodstuffs offered in the college are healthy. Make your voice heard. Here are some ideas:

• Talk to your kid and tell him why healthy foods are important in university and why some foods he could buy during the previous university year are no longer available.
• Get ready meals and healthy treats university with your kid.
• Join a parent / teacher committee to help create excellent decisions on suggested university foods.

What can you do to inspire healthy eating?

The Policy on foods and drinks in educational institutions covers only foods sold in class. It does not apply to foods at home. Promote consuming healthily by helping to feed your young ones in class and in your house. Bring the children to the food market, prepare healthy foods and motivate healthy activities in university. As one for young children, you must make them understand consuming healthily habits that will last a lifetime.
